Those look great John and smoothsailor!

I was wondering where the grey tint came from. They do look more brown than grey now after the cleaning and conditioning, but they still look a little grey to me. That might change when they dry down completely, but I don't think it looks bad. It's quite a unique patina, especially given how light the upper shafts still are. Very cool.

Question for everyone...

If you were to build your perfect pair of Engineer boots, what are the characteristics you'd want to see? Some things that come to mind for me would be:

1. Japanese roller buckles
2. Longish instep straps (extending an about 2 inches from buckle)
3. unstructured, slightly flatter toe box
4. horsebutt leather with a nice pull-up... brown/tan base vs died right through
5. 1 5/8" - 1 3/4" heel height

How many rows of stitching do you prefer (2 or 3 or other)?
Storm welt or not?
Vibram or Cats Paw soles/heels?
Stitch-down or nailed down?
Shaft height?
Rolled or cut top edge of shaft?

Which of the major vintage-style, hand-made brands is your favourite and why?
Lofgren
Role Club
Attractions
Mr. Freedom
Clinch
Real McCoy
Toys McCoy
Other?

I may have the opportunity to help design something and wanted to know what people like and why. Would be interested in hearing people's thoughts.

Obviously build quality is the most important. Ss far as details the 2 most important to me are having half soles instead of a full Vibram 700 esque sole. That way the boot can be resoled without having to take the whole heel off. The other thing that is important is making sure the boot isn't too heavy. This is something that the Japanese makers do better than the American ones. Wearing a pair of heavy engineers for a whole day can be cumbersome as hell.

I think for me, attractions have nailed the perfect balance between beauty, shape, leather, quality and price

Awesome Smoothsailor!

Can't wait to see them after. They look very heavily worn.

Shameless admittance: I have not worn my boots in some weeks now. I got annoyed with my gait in them.

Should I lower the heel? I definitely like them but wondering what y'all think I can do to make it easier to walk in them..
