Hi there! Looked through this amazing thread and has really helped me learn more about Big E. I came across a pair of selvege denim with a big E tab and it appears it’s a 1993 pair. But there are a couple aspects I’d like some insight on if possible.
First of all the buttons around the waist, I’m assuming for suspenders? Secondly the Levi patch on the waist is not like what I’ve seen before. Here are the photos https://imgur.com/a/5MMXbQ4 Also forgot to add the watch pocket is selvedge |

Interesting, the date on the wash tag is November 1994 ( 11 94) these would be late 1930’s repros I wasn’t aware of these being made? Anyone else have some ideas? Buttons on the waistband are meant for suspenders Cool pair. |

Exactly- they were using only one digit numbers for the year at that time- I have one from 84, they used 2 numbers for the year in the mid 80’s- then switch back to one, then in 1992 they switch back to 2 numbers for the year. |

Thank you for the reply, Sansome. What about them makes you believe they are repros particularly from the 30s?

Oops- I overlooked that they have no cinch straps- they do have the #2 label, so maybe early 40’s? I think #2’s were discontinued by mid 40’s? |

They are fake. Just Google search ‘LVC 201’.
Real 201s have a crotch rivet and exposed back pocket rivets. The back pocket arcs are wrong, they should be single needle stitched (ignoring the 2005 pair). The patch looks suspect - the gap between the n and t in ‘Garment’ and it looks too centrally placed. The back pocket red tab wasn’t introduced until 1936 so shouldn’t be there but in any case looks wrong with the loose thread hanging. The hardware should be black, there shouldn’t be a 201 code on the top button. But apart from that... Have a look at this link on fakes courtesy of Paul T’s excellent Loomstate blog.
