I'd like to attach some photos, but I cannot figure out how. Is there a way to upload images to this thread?

Hi all, new post. Looking for some help. My wife found an old jacket, we are trying to figure out what it is and how old it is.

Label has big E. Sanforized. Cow head on label. Diamond buttons. Looks like female ranch style. No cinch on back.

Can anyone help us figure out what we have and how old it is? We'd really appreciate some expert guidance.

Thanks.

I’ve seen this little triangle detail a few times- it’s been on trouser pants, just like this, only not from a pair of spring bottom
Pants…So far- all the detailed pieces I’ve seen are from the 1880’s and 90’s
So if I had to make a guess- 1890’s

edit- to be clear, I’m referring to the triangular stitch on the pocket corners.
Something about that rivet says 1890’s too
I agree- it looks like brown twill- much like the guy who came here years ago…
Looking to sell those early 1890’s- brown twill spring bottom pants.

I think that was the pair in photos in this thread, which are blue:

Black denim would easily fade to that brownish colour in 120 years I reckon. The dates are often pretty vague with this stuff though, so maybe the black were available a few years earlier than Levis thought in 2014?

thanks so much! seems more like brown twill perhaps? but yes; turn of the century for black denim would seem too early; given likelihood that would have been a repurposing of an already worn out garment... [so turnaround for trashing a pair of pants, this fragment getting into this assemblage, then a museum across the Atlantic taking it into its collection I am guessing is more than two years...]

I remember now there was some drama of a spring bottom pair being posted here to try to get valuation before off to eBay... they were brown I think? this is a fragment in holdings of National Museum Scotland, so no eBaying, but they were interested in windows of production and also this points to other interesting lines of enquiry if the spring bottoms were essentially levis attempt at getting to a richer clientele ...

Introduced in 1889 - it looks like they're black denim, in which case they were available by the turn of the century (which seems a bit too close to the date of them landing in the museum, but there it is)

a museological question passed on to me to ask for learned friends like yourselves...
this piece was added to the a Scottish museum's collection in 1902
clearly present is a L.S. & co. rivet... [it is a pocket that seems to have been filled with sand, part of a Blackfoot horse cropper]
the thought is that is a fragment of a garment from earlier than the accession date...
... anyone have ideas on dates it might have come from, or model?

Thanks Dr. !
It's me again. Basically the first edition of the guide book is ready. I have added a lot of texts and additional info/history to it to make it more functional. I promise it is 500% better than the first draft. =)

Hi,
Does any denimbro have the chance to save this updated version with additional info/texts from Denimseeker and kind to share again? The original link from Denimseeker is empty.
Thanks,
Sleepy
