What do you buy for ‘archival’ purposes if you don’t mind me asking Duke?

Seriously though, I collect - and although that’s done by spending money and making purchases, I don’t see this as needlessly buying clothes.

Some (not me of course!) might say that collecting with no intention to wear is the most needless reason for buying clothes

If buying a lot of things is the same as buying nothing, I think I'm excelling at this challenge
Jokes aside, I haven't bought many new garments in the last year or two, I'm very happy with the stuff I own and look forward to extracting the maximum lifespan out of what I've got. If I live to be 300 I might accomplish that. Now my spare money goes towards other extremely durable/useful/beautiful things that are just as superfluous as the clothes I was buying ~5yrs ago. I'm not sure this qualifies as a victory of any kind, I am in no way "freed" from consumer impulses, the objet d'covet is just different now. I usually manage to convince myself that I'm "being the change I want to see" in some way through these purchases. It's a funky balance, and I don't think anyone* is really immune to the prevailing patterns of consumption. I try to purchase carefully (in accordance with ethics first, tastes second) and focus on gratitude for what I have, and that seems to be about all you can do without renouncing the material world. *For 2020, let's do the full blown ascetic mendicant challenge. Of course we won't be able to post about it, someone will have to volunteer as documentarian for the denimmonks.
