I had always assumed that bears would struggle to find a well fitting shirt because of the large collar but he pulls it of perfectly, even the sleeves are a good length.

Just a little over a month away. Any updates on Denimbruin activities?

Posted By: mr randal

Just received the first package from a DB look book contributor- a new model jacket from Good Wear Leather. All the packages should be in by July 5th, and the book will shoot in mid July, to be ready for posting hopefully by July 20th.
Something coming from mister freedom that I'm especially anxious to see!
Previous denimbruin attendees and Instagram followers will recognize some of the models, I think.
This years Harris Collection repro, by WH Ranch Dungarees, with assistance from Conehead, should be ready soon, and the preliminaries look very special. I think everyone will be pleased by the price point as well...
Fingers crossed that I can convince proulxsie, who will be here in July, to model something for us.

Plans are coming along nicely all around!

Affordable Deadgrass gear sounds intriguing.

We're making arrangements now.  Last year we got a recommendation of the Mayflower Hotel.  Anyone else have experience with this place?  Also we are considering staying longer before or after, are anyone else sticking around longer?

Posted By: mr randal
Date Posted: 27 Jun 2014 at 8:39pm
The Mayflower is really nice. Its on the northern border of the Tenderloin, but Taylor street itself is okay to walk on. Just avoid heading south on foot and it should be fine.

Looks good Mr. R.

If you are looking for other options, there are excellent ranch, open space trail, oak trees, cattle loaders, and loads of hills in and around the open space of Mt Diablo. If you want me to scout a few spots with shots taken on my daily hikes shoot me a PM.

Posted By: mr randal

Thanks, Cinch, but I think I got the locales knocked out.

Snake- no, although I asked Ishmael to put a bug in their ear about next year. These were just test shots for location, so nothing being worn is for the look book.

Mr. Randal sent me a PM concerning the Goodwear package.

"Hey Drew,

John and myself decided since you are such a nice guy with good taste that you should get your very own Goodwear A1 to promote the brand, free of course! What's your address and would you mind paying for shipping?

Thanks for being such a rad guy!

You're best friend

I went location scouting again today for the look book. Good Wear leather sent in something new, and I wanted a naval/ air force setting to shoot it in. Ross (denimbro Devilish) suggested the Alameda Naval Air base, which has been decommissioned but has a museum and quite a few ships still docked there.
The new GW jacket has something to do with the Doolittle Raiders, who made a daring raid on the Japanese homeland in 1942 from the deck of the USS Hornet. I had no idea that the Alameda NAB had a large part of their museum dedicated to the Raiders, and in fact the Hornet itself is docked there and allows visitors on board to visit a museum housed in the ships hold.
Devilish knew all of this, of course, but waited patiently for me to get it for myself.
He was also wearing another GW A-2 that is related to the Doolittle Raiders. Serendipity, eh?
So we'll be shooting the Good Wear Leather segment of the DB look book on board the Hornet in a few weeks, with this new jacket and a few others generously allowed for use from Devilish's GW collection.

Here's General Doolittle:

The USS Hornet:

If I fly into SF early (arrive before noon) on Friday, would i be in town 'too early' ?  -- I mean, is anyone else flying in somewhat early we could have lunch and sight-see, etc?

Some unkind life experiences came along recently, and I neglected to book my stay until now.  Affordable digs were a little slim in the pickin'.  We took a chance on one of those secret hotel deals as we made out quite well last year.  We ended up with the Powell.  It looks cool and old-timey Thumbs Up.  Most of the reviews say it's a great location for getting around downtown Smile.  Aaaaand most of the reviews say it was their worst stay ever Shocked.  Noise, no ac, moldy bathrooms, smells, and the odd cockroach Sick.  Well we recently saw the Hotel Budapest, and have our hopes up for rustic adventure!  Or something...

For anyone attending Sunday's Denimbruin events, if you are into any kind of cool vintage finds head next door to Alameda to the Flea market Sunday morning Aug 3. Opens at 6am. It happens the first Sunday of every month and dealers come from all over the Western states to sell. There are usually 1000+ vendors and everything (well almost) is 30+ years old. No tube socks and oranges for sale. A great place to find old Levis, animal horns, military surplus, boots, old belts, Navaho silver, Persian rugs etc.... Many pickers for major designers shop Alameda. Oh, and lots of good food trucks for a great coffee, tacos, pizza, Thai, etc....

I'll be there with Mrs. Cinch nice and early. We go every month.

I'm amazed at how similar I find the all the jeans. While there are are certainly plenty of things that make each of the three different, there are quite a few shared traits: curved pockets, pocket-edge design/reinforcement, cinch-back.

BTW, this is not critical. It's pleased.
