DENIMBRO *TOP TOP ELITE* LEROY STRAUSS DEADSTOCK 1890 WORLD TOUR
As most of you know, Michael Harris recently found a small batch of deadstock ca. 1890 cinchback jeans from Levi Strauss competitor (and cousin), Leroy Strauss.
This model seems to be from the Leroy Strauss budget line, similar to the Levi's 201 of the time.
Most of the batch got snapped up by collectors immediately, but one pair was generously reserved for the denimbro community and is ready to go on a world tour!
This pair has been given one warm wash and air-dried and has shrunk from a 34 x 34 to roughly a 32 x 32. With some wear these should accommodate a 33 waist comfortably or possibly a 34 with a bit of sweat. After another wash I think 34s are definitely out of luck, and 33s iffy. Ultimate size will probably be roughly a 31 x 31 before stretching, I'm sure they would work perfectly for a 32.
A few people expressed great disappointment with the Leroys, so I imagine we won't see them signing up for the tour, but I imagine we can find 10 or so people who do like them and can round out a tour?

If we have an overseas leg, it would be a good idea to collect a small entry fee of $10 or so to enable payouts to those doing the overseas shipping.
What is expedited overseas shipping nowadays for a pair of jeans- $60 or so for sub-DHL?

Us commoners have a chance at the Leroy's? Oh goodie. If I get in early enough, I can squeeze into them. I'm in socal so hopefully I can be part of the early rounds before another wash.
How high is the rise, btw?

It depends on if they get washed before they get to me or not. I'm a 33 so them shrinking down to 31 would be close, but I can handle them at 32 with a bit of stretch.

Please note - I may be best placed closer towards the end as I'll be caring for a baby human soon , and they're always full of surprises which may result in the need of a wash or three in a months time.

I got the jeans a couple of days ago from Mr. Hollows so I figured I would share a few pics of the jeans themselves.
These are sort of like CSF by Roy in a way. A lot of loose threads hanging out... more than I've ever seen in my life. I was surprised that Roy was able to do this considering how perfectly neat his jeans usually are. Even the stitching is not as crazy clean as it is on my other two Roy pants. Not that I'm complaining, I do sort of get the vibe he was going for.
The lack of belt loops would rule them out of being full time jeans for me, but it is fun to wear something like this for a month. The patch looks and feels like some sort of cloth patch, which is interesting and something I have never experienced. The crotch rivet is also new for me.
The fit is surprisingly nice. I thought it would be more anti-fit, but in reality it fits much more like my own CSF WWII jeans. The fabric is interesting. It is VERY neppy. It's not overly slubby, though. As a result, it's actually sort of scratchy and uncomfortable, but at least it's more interesting than the average Cone denim.
Please excuse the extreme amount of pics. This is my first tour so me being the lead off batter along with the fact that I got a new camera made me go a little nuts with the pics. Hope everyone enjoys! These are pretty damn awesome.
Also, I felt like I just had to wear one of my Masterson's shirts with these:P ... and Role Clubs :D
Some single row stitching here:
Here's a pretty good shot of the fabric itself:
Me trying and failing to be artsy with my photos, but it does show some of the loose threads and what the weft looks like:
Crotch rivet shot:
The print on the pocket is fun:

Hanging thread all over the place is common when it comes to Levi's that date before 1893- it's all open seam( I believe that's the correct term?) Most companies back in the 1800's were using felled seams......and as a result of that- non Levi companies didn't have all that hanging thread. Fit is great dude......and on a side note- I don't remember remember any one saying that Roy was responsible for making these.

Thanks dude, that neppy 140 year-old deadstock denim looks amazing (surely there was a musty smell!) and it's a great fit on you. That lack of overlooking and/or felling certainly does leave plenty of loose threads, I wonder if Levi was as slack as his cousin/brother(?) Leroy when it came to finishing.

A - May - Zing! Great job Leroy! The patch, the inside pocket stamp, the fabric - all very cool details. I had a pair of LVC "tool pocket"/"Nevada" jeans from around 2010. They were quite similar inside with lots of loose threads.

Dude, those are the best-fitting, most flattering pair of jeans/chinos/trousers you've shown us yet. Seriously. I'm pretty sure your Commander in Chiefette is saying the same.
All those loose threads, though. I get the historical verisimilitude and all but it makes me wonder what shape these jeans will be in by the end of their world tour.
What is the experience of those who have jeans that are finished --or, rather, not finished -- in this way?

Did anyone persevere with the LVC pantaloons? They were similar regards the loose threads. After one was I thought mine would unravel like a wool sweater in a Charlie Chaplin movie! They remain in the "once in a while pile"
