A lot of newcomers and former-lurkers are having trouble posting images, so I thought I'd do a quick guide on how to embed a pic into your post.

First, you'll need to pinpoint the source of the image, or upload it from your computer.

There are a number of free image hosting services, but if you need one that's quick and easy, try http://imgur.com" rel="nofollow - imgur.com .

Once there you can upload a photo from your computer.  When it finishes, or when you locate the picture online that you'd like to post, right click on the image and select "copy image URL":

Next you'll need to insert the image into your post.  In order to do that, you first need to make sure you've got the advanced reply settings available.  You can't use these features when using the "quick reply" box at the bottom of the thread, so you first need to click on "full reply editor":

Now you'll be able to click "insert image" (the little tree icon):

And you'll get a box that looks like this:

The most important part here is that you delete the "http://" that automatically pops up in the Image URL box.  You've already got that from copying the image URL, and having "http://" in there twice will mess everything up.  So delete that, and then paste (ctrl+v) the image URL into the box.

Click preview to see that it grabbed the correct image, then hit "OK" and the image will appear in your new post!  Voila!

Now everyone can see those guns.

Hopefully this was helpful.

Thanks Hollow, but what box do you need at the imgur site to upload the picture?
I tried it again and I,m about to fail

In the top right corner if you click "computer" it'll let you browse your computer for the pic you want to upload, the rest of the instructions should follow after it finishes uploading.

Using Imgur you can copy and paste the BBCcode directly into the quick reply window as this sample proofs:

Anyone know a good way to post from a phone?

Posted By: Boyo
Date Posted: 11 Mar 2014 at 8:40am
My method isn't all that smooth but it works. I have an iPhone and use the photobucket app, you need to download the pic from your phone to photobucket. once the picture is in photobucket you can upload the same as from a computer

Flickr is dead easy..
1)Click on your image in photostream
2)Click on the square with the arrow (share image)
3)Grab the BBcode and paste straight into the message box.

Bobs your Uncle, No need to hyperlink or insert image.

upload pics to facebook, then copy-paste to Denimbro. Thats what works easiest for me.

Absolutely. Fucking Flickr is the worst all of a sudden. Their "new photo experience" is one of the worst innovation rollouts I've ever seen.
I spent two hours yesterday trying to figure out how to post from Flickr now- I finally got it to work after using the post pin icon and then extracting the image url from the BB code. What a pain in the ass.
I'd leave flickr in a second, but if I stopped paying for my pro account all of my previously hosted pics would vanish, leaving a lot of holes in my old posts...

I have resurrected an ancient photobucket account that I used to use but the stored images are smaller file size and lesser quality. I figured out with the new Flickr set up that you can only use the BBcodes pin if you make your photos public but with 1TB of storage I use Flickr as cloud and by making my images public it links all and sundry to my account. Do they not respect folks right to a private life anymore?

Posted By: hollows
Date Posted: 04 Apr 2014 at 9:02am
You can still link directly to the images (even private ones) if you click "..." then "download/all sizes", then "view all sizes" and then right click to get the actual image URL.

This is definitely needlessly complex, and Flickr has gone from being a nice portfolio site to a complete encumbrance.  All agreed on that count.

Hollows to the rescue! Nice work.

I think Flickr is falling prey to the modern fallacy that redesign is innovation. Innovation is improved quality or functionality- redesigning your service every six months and rearranging all of the features and options is merely a shell game, and an obnoxious one.

Not that flickr didn't upgrade anything, I think pic size can be larger now, but you tend to overlook the pros when you are irritatedly spending hours trying to figure out what options have been renamed, rearranged, or eliminated, much like every time you use itunes.

It really does feel like they might be intentionally obfuscating functionality to save on bandwidth, which is silly for a paid service.   I would pay extra to have my Flickr appear as it did 3 updates ago.

I used to be able to send customers there to see a nicely organized catalog of past works, but now it's like handing them a puzzle box.  Here, open this.

Do you guys not use a plug in Ad blocker? I have them installed on all my computers and mobile devices. In fact on my iPad I use a browser specifically designed for blocking ads and pop ups. Every once in awhile I might have to switch to Safari to get something to fully function but I prefer that to all the obnoxious pop up/auto play shit that's out there.

I've never liked Flickr, don't Facebook and I hate the Photobucket iPad app but for some reason I don't mind the regular web version of PB, without the ads.

Hollows, Nice one buster!
I have been struggling with your instruction for the last few days, (you might have noticed) In the end it came down to the fact that i was using the default Safari on my new Mac, I have just configured my dock installing my usual Firefox browser (and Chrome for Yahoo Auctions) following your instruction with  Firefox it works to perfection. Thanks

If i can add to your post you don't need to right click the image URL you can drag your chosen image straight from the "All Sizes" page into the message box.

The light bulb moment came when Safari wouldn't let me drag images from google instead replacing them with a blue ? in a box like bobs post in the books thread.

So what would be the consensus on the best/easiest way to post pics here now?

I used to have accounts with imageshack and photobucket for this purpose, but both seem to have stopped the free service.

Although you now need a Yahoo ID the pin has been resigned to the history books and its an easy BBcode paste. Flickr if your listening Stop! f***ing about with it  just leave it alone.

I'd love to go back to using flickr, but have not in a couple years so I've missed out on any updates/improvements, but it does seem like they just can't get it right

Ishmael, I don't think PB stopped its free service. I'm using PB and it's pretty much the best for forum uses.

Flickr is not friendly for the copying of image URL's but a good plus is that it is much more of a community rather than simply an image hosting site.

There have been many, many updates but no improvements just bewilderment. Sometimes two or more format changes a month. They should have stuck with the if it ain't broke don't fix it model. Still its one of the few places around to offer a free 1TB of high res storage without being bombarded with advertising and it works better with DB recently.

Just logged into an old PB account and it is working/free. While im here i will try to demonstrate what i consider sets the two services apart.
Both these images are shot at 6meg and uploaded.
1st up PB

Same image from Flickr

The resolution/file size/clarity that PB stores the same image appears to be reduced. I have not spent much time hanging out in PB so there could be an easy fix?

What the flip's going on with Photobucket? it looks like they have disabled all 3rd party hosting leaving blank images around the forums (its not just here) its been a while since ive used my PB account, have they been hacked or are they blackmailing us for more dosh?

edit- It looks like they have limited how much 3rd party hosting they will allow on an foc account. Is this something new they have come up with to raise funds? whatever... it sucks! Hope flikr don't follow suit.

İmgur.com works like a charm, better image quality too I think.
It only bothers me that the android app doesn't allow to copy and paste an already bracketed image for forums, this feature works only on the desktop version.

^l've asked this question before but no real solid feedback was forthcoming.
I guess the answer is no as l think it would be expensive (just a guess) or too much hassle for the Harris's to sort out.
You could pm Hollows to asked Sansome if it's possible, but he seems to have gone awol recently (hey who hasn't) but then life does get in the way of our forum woes.

Not a scooby doo mate? I'm a dunce when it comes to anything tech.
We do have a direct uploader but it is limited so large files don't easily equate. I think l had a discussion with CSL about it and he suggested reducing the size of the image.
I could be just imagining this, but as l said, l'm a dunce on this subject. Even my Mrs (who's pretty sharp on all things tech) gets hacked off with me and my goldfish like memory on the subject.

[Edit] have just pm'd Sansome asking him if it's possible

No worries guys, I downloaded Imgur and it doesn’t seem too hard to use (I’m a tech since too!)

Posted By: CSL
Date Posted: 18 Mar 2019 at 2:52pm
I found using the direct uploader to be fussy. Even when I reduced the size of the file to under the accepted limit it would often register as still exceeding that limit when I tried uploading. When I did manage to get a photo uploaded it came out looking too low resolution.

I use Imgur now. Strangely when I upload from there DB always rejects the file on the first try with an error message. On the second try it works fine. Always wondered why it acts that way...

Recieved a reply from Sansome, he said he will look into it, although any tangible solution may take a while to surface.

The images links you’ve posted here are not correctly formatted - if you look at the syntax between the bbcodes [img] then you’ll see it points to a gallery web page not a specific image. There is no .jpg reference
