My pleasure, Fender. BTW, other than the crap drivers, Ottawa is really a pretty safe town.

Thank you, Mr. Q. I will try in the next few days to take out Mr. Smart Phone and take a pic of them. For me, the real joy of these boots is the comfort of their sprung toe, which makes them suitable for lengthy jaunts. That and I really like the idea of having had this decades-long online relationship with the guy who seems to run the operation. I'm kind of into brand loyalty of that nature. |

I have some W. Lennon boots with a similar sprung toe.
They certainly propel you on your way! |

A few days ago now, but...
Illumin8em and I took a field trip to Portland. We did a bunch of stuff but the only thing I actually took pictures of was the Rail museum, which is of course ideal Denimbro material. Also, it seems that one of the Queen's emissaries has sent some manner of peace offering to those of us in the lost colony of America. Thanks Double0! They're delicious, but I'm afraid I'll still have to decline the invitation back into the Commonwealth.

With today's extortionate biscuit shipping prices your talking almost Hob-Nob money there.
I like to nibble around the circumference before pushing my tongue between the jelly and the cake, lever the jaffa-orange part away and suck the chocolate and jelly and then finally chuck the cake part in. Its all a carefully choreographed ritual from childhood in the days when i had to 'eke things out' |

illumin8em and Hollows, it's all yummy, the trains and the treats.
Your pics of those hulking beasts remind me why rail enthusiasts exist. 00, your jaffa cake ritual sounds like a variation of the Oreo cookie goodness-extraction technique. For me, though, the choreography used to be applied to Peek Frean's fruit cremes and bourbon cremes. Not so much now... |

Just got back from Montreal, where I spent most of my time locked inside with hundreds of dudes wearing lanyards and staring intently at their screens. The theme was more code-gag tee-shirts, pasty skin, and overstuffed backpacks than selvage denim in this crowd... On one break, however, I did manage to stumble on an amazing Barbie expo. Kind of like getting a pink peony-scented bubblebath after all that dude-ittude. Sadly, it was tough to get decent shots (again, taken with my crappy mobile because I don't own a decent camera and wouldn't have thought to bring it to this particular sausage festival anyway). All that to say sorry about the blinding flashes and Doris Day blurring. Here's one of the many, many display cases. Absolutely glorious detailing by top-flight fashion designers. This runway shot looks to have suffered from my shaky hand. I was moving quickly so as to get back to the workshop on time. But, holy crap, Nascar Barbie, decked out in some hot boots-n-denim. Ferrari-red leather, nuff said. Next time, I will get some proper shots of Montreal herself. She's a beauty and I have always loved my visits.

I hadn't finished my morning coffee when I started reading your post HP, and in my haze I thought Bartleby was posting about Barbies. And I had to wonder if it was some sort of post-modern joke or serious.
In other words, carry on. Though I wonder if we could ever get a Levi's 501 selvedge Marilyn Barbie. In case I have a daughter.

Yes, there were probably a few lines crossed with this post. But try to think of it this way: the people who stitched up these tiny garments had to have been equipped with the same eye to detail that only a Denimbro could understand. And, yup, your future-daughter might even enjoy imagining herself in a Barbie selvedge denim ballgown (there was actually one on display). My hope is that she finds it in the exact same aisle as GI Joe and the train sets, and that she's pushing you to let her reconfigure your home network. |
